Cornwall changes by the hour.
That is the point.
A familiar coastline can become an entirely different landscape as the tide turns, cloud breaks over the Atlantic or the last light catches a harbour wall.
This workshop is built around those moments—not simply visiting famous locations, but being in the right place with time to observe, compose and respond. Sunrise and sunset provide the anchors. Between them, the itinerary remains flexible enough to follow the strongest conditions.
This is not a checklist tour
The aim is to spend meaningful time with a place, understand what the light is doing and make photographs that feel considered and personal.

With a maximum of six photographers, there is time for individual guidance, space to work without crowding and enough flexibility to change direction when the weather suggests something better.

Opportunities range from 12–24mm environmental images to compressed 120–400mm views.

From Dartmoor to
the Atlantic edge
Two carefully chosen bases reduce repeated cross-county driving and open up a much broader range of landscapes. Each day remains responsive to weather, tides, access and light.
Dartmoor & Boscastle
Meet at Exeter St Davids at 12:00, travel west for a condition-led Dartmoor session, then settle into Boscastle for an early dinner and sunset on the coast.
Water, geology & the North Coast
St Nectan’s Glen at first light, followed by Crackington Haven, Sandymouth and Hartland Quay before sunset at Trebarwith Strand.
Harbours, headlands & Atlantic light
Port Isaac, The Rumps and a flexible choice of bays around Trevose, finishing from the open clifftop viewpoints at Bedruthan.
River woodland & working harbours
Lerryn, Polperro and Mevagissey turn the transfer south into a photographic journey, with an evening session overlooking Falmouth Bay.
St Ives & the Lizard peninsula
A long-form St Ives session, then Hell’s Mouth and Marazion. Conditions decide between Porthleven, Mullion, Cadgwith, Kynance and Lizard Point.
Tide, granite & the mining coast
Pedn Vounder or its clifftops, Mousehole, Land’s End and Porth Nanven, culminating with sunset among the engine houses at Botallack.
One last frame
Check out, make one final condition-led stop—most likely on Dartmoor—and return to Exeter St Davids by 13:00.

Meet
Jon Ranger
A professional landscape photographer with a lifelong connection to photography—and to Cornwall.
Jon received his first camera at nine and spent most of his childhood in Cornwall, building detailed knowledge of the county and its changing landscapes. His work ranges from intimate coastal details to expansive seascapes, always seeking to communicate what it felt like to stand there.

Collection from Exeter St Davids at 12:00 on Sunday. Transport throughout the workshop and return to Exeter by 13:00 on Saturday are included.
The Wellington Hotel
11–14 April in a private en-suite room. A historic Boscastle base, convenient for St Nectan’s Glen, Tintagel and the North Cornwall coast.
Merchants Manor Spa
14–17 April in a private en-suite room. An adults-only Falmouth base for St Ives, the Lizard peninsula and Penwith.
Plan around the light
Meals are not included. Additional entry fees may be charged if a condition-led change of plan uses an alternative location with admission.

Questions before
you book
How experienced do I need to be?
This workshop is aimed at experienced photographers who are confident operating their camera. The week concentrates on composition, visual decisions and responding to the landscape rather than basic camera tuition.
How physically demanding is it?
A reasonable level of fitness is required. Some walks exceed one mile and may include steep, muddy, rocky or exposed paths. Longer routes are explained in advance so you can make an informed choice.
What happens if the weather is poor?
Weather is part of photographing Cornwall. The itinerary can shift towards shelter, woodland, harbours or a different stretch of coast whenever conditions suggest a stronger or safer opportunity.
Can I bring a drone?
Yes. Aerial opportunities may arise, although every flight remains subject to weather, airspace, local restrictions, landowner requirements and safe operation.
Is the itinerary guaranteed?
The structure is carefully planned, but individual locations are not guaranteed. Weather, tides, access and safety always determine the final choice.
